John Brousek - biography

After graduating from Sydney University with a B.A. Dip. Ed. John’s first involvement in the film industry was in 1986 when he worked as an assistant grip on A Place At the Coast. After this he crewed for two years in various positions from A.D. to Unit Manager, before attending the AFTRS and gaining a Graduate Diploma in Producing . He has since worked as a location manager, accountant and financial controller on a number of feature films.

John has also studied acting and directing at the Ensemble Studios, been an Affiliate director with the Sydney Theatre Company and attended the Sundance Institute’s writer/director workshops in 1989/90 and 91. Since then John has worked as the Production Liason Officer for The Melbourne Film Office and as Creative Executive for Becker Entertainment.

In 1998 John went out on his own as an independent producer. In his first year he produced the documentary Against Wind and Tide, then followed this with the feature films Sensitive New Age Killer (1999), The Wog Boy (2000), Hating Alison Ashley (2004), and The Tender Hook (2007), starring Hugo Weaving and Rose Byrne.
