On Thursday 24 May director Ana Kokkinos introduced ASDA Executive Director Richard Harris at the Loop Bar in Melbourne, where he launched his Policy Papers essay Film in the Age of Digital Distribution.

“We know that everything we do is rapidly changing,” said Ana, “and it affects filmmakers’ attempts to connect with audiences. I’m excited by these changes and daunted by them, and I relish being in the midst of this debate.”

One idea at the centre of the discussion about the digital distribution of media content is how creators can exploit the rights they hold to content in different territories and platforms. Geographical territories are starting to be replaced by platform based business models.

“The arrival of the internet has changed the whole basis of the film industry, which used to be to divide the world into different territories,” said Harris.

In the forthcoming seminar series Richard will explore several case studies of successful new media distribution deals. Click here to learn more about, and register to attend, the Business models for digital distribution seminar series.
